Begin making a list of images John sees. Note important phrases and concepts. Referring back to this list and adding to it will be very helpful. For example, your list from Chapter One might look like this:

  • Seven spirits
  • Alpha and the Omega
  • Coming with the clouds
  • Scroll
  • Seven golden lampstands,
  • White
  • Eyes like blazing fire
  • Glowing bronze
  • Seven stars
  • Double-edged sword
  • Revelation
  • Prophecy
  • Firstborn from the dead.

    As you move through the revelation, you have Jesus’ promise:

     Matt 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

    John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you

    There are several free internet resources available to assist you with your studies.

    As you read Revelation, remember the principles that this study follows as outlined in detail in the Introduction:

    • John’s vision is meant to be understood;
    • His symbolic images can be interpreted through common expressions and understandings familiar to John’s culture, as well as our own;
    • By finding Old Testament prophetic images that are very similar to those used in the Revelation;
    • At times, the images are explained in the text itself.
